Description
Visible light microscopes for observing any samples, transparent or opaque, at magnifications up to
4000 x. Also equipped with video cameras to capture dynamic events, such as emulsification processes
or sample change due to temperature.
Uses a PC-based image processing system for image acquisition, processing, and analysis.
Equipment
Two Nikon Optiphot-Pol microscopes for transmitted and reflected light
studies. Polarized light, phase contrast, dark field, fluorescence, and
Nomarski differential interference contrast (DIC) illumination are
available. A monochrome or color video camera relays the microscope
image to a computer image processor for background subtraction,
contrast enhancement, filtering, and other processing options.
Accessories
- A Temperature stage, -20 °C to 100 °C
- A flow cell
- Dage MTI series 68 Newvicon tube monochrome video camera
- Dage MTI DC-330 3-chip color video camera
- Dage VE-1000 SIT-intensified camera for low light applications, i.e. birefringence or fluorescense
Applications
DIC:
- imaging of low contrast objects
- study of changes in
the microstructure of surfactant and lipid vesicles with variations in
pH, temperature, or counterion concentration
- determining interfacial tension of polymers through melting characteristics
Specifications
- 0.2µm ultimate resolution
- measurement of objects as small as 0.4µm,
