The
PL220 is essential for molecular weight characterization of polymers
that are insoluble at ambient temperature. Samples may be pre-heated in
the autosampler carousel or kept at a lower temperature prior to
injection in order to avoid degradation. The solvent compartment is
heated to maintain solvents in the liquid state. The entire injection
system, column set and all detectors are contained within the oven
chamber to insure maximum temperature stability and reproducibility.
This sytem has an RI detector, Viscotek capillary bridge
viscometer and Wyatt heated miniDAWN 3-angle light scattering detector
for absolute molecular weight determination, and the triple detection
arrangement allows for universal calibration and polymer branching
calculations. Column set: 4 x PL Mixed A (300x7.5mm)
Solvent: 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene
Temperature: 135°C
Flow rate: 1 ml/min
By special arrangements other solvents can be accommodated, e.g.
DMF or DMSO@100°C, TCB @ 160° for polypropylene &
UHWMPE;C,o-chloronaphthalene @ 210°C for poly(phenylene sulfide)
characterization.

Left back is the RI detector and to the right the read head for the
miniDAWN MALS detector.
